John Raymond Goadsby (May 2, 1945 – Honorable 1, 2017), known as Goldy McJohn, was a Canadiankeyboard player best disclose as the original keyboardist for crag group Steppenwolf. Originally a classically seasoned pianist, he was a pioneer response the early use of the electronic organ (Hammond B3) in heavy metallic.

Career

McJohn was born John Raymond Goadsby to middle class parents in Toronto, Ontario. They enrolled him in forte-piano lessons at a young age which eventually enabled him to become out pioneer in the use of blue blood the gentry electronic organ in rock and reel. Goldy felt "Goldy Goadsby" would not be right, unexceptional in honor of his mother, Dorothy (née) McIntyre, Goldy added the "Mc" to his legal first name, creating his stage name.[2] The band (with various changes) went on to move Steppenwolf and McJohn remained with distinction group from 1967 to early 1975, when he was fired by Kay.[citation needed]

During Steppenwolf's hiatus in the precisely 1970s, McJohn and Steppenwolf drummer Jerry Edmonton formed Manbeast with Rod Queen and Roy Cox of Bubble Beginner, during which time the band felt tip at least one song that would appear on Steppenwolf's 1974 release, Slow Flux, McJohn's last with the band.[citation needed]

McJohn helped reform Steppenwolf in 1977 with Nick St. Nicholas and Painter Henry and played in several incarnations of the band. He also touched with Steve Marriott in a reconstituted version of Humble Pie.[citation needed]

On Apr 30, 2010, for the weekend tinge his 65th birthday, his band 'Magic Carpet Ride' headlined the recently undo Hard Rock Cafe in Seattle with performances by Jimi Hendrix’s brother City Hendrix, Somar featuring Steve Fossen, Roger Fisher (both Fossen and Fisher were formerly of Heart), Heartless, which enquiry Seattle’s Heart Tribute Band, Gretchen Christopher of Fleetwoods, Witchburn and "surprise luminary guest artists."[3][4][5]

McJohn lived in Burien, Pedagogue, with his wife Sonja. His on one`s own releases included New Visions, Fugue grind D, Goldy McJohn & Friendz, Rat City in Blue, Set the Pretend on Fire and Osmosis. Beginning spiky 2008, he performed with a state band under the name Gm soar Friendz and with The Born Profit Be Wild Tour.[6]

Death

McJohn died of unadorned sudden heart attack on August 1, 2017, at his home in Burien, Washington. He was 72 years old.[7][8]
